Welcome to Colorado Springs Bird Control: Prevention and Removal of Unwanted Birds

Our company specializes in resolving problems caused by birds in Colorado Springs, Colorado, both residential and commerical. We handle bird species such as pigeons, starlings, grackles, sparros, and even Canada Geese and woodpeckers. We generally don't kill birds - we prevent them from causing problems. Most commonly, this means that we install barriers that prevent them access to your building or property, or anti-roosting devices that prevent them from landing, nesting, or roosting on your home, store, building, or anywhere. We use netting, needle strips, shock track, and more. We do offer trapping in some cases, and removal of birds from warehouses, grocery stores, or other commerical or industrial buildings by netting or sometimes pellet shooting. We have a wide variety of tools and methods for solving every manner of bird problem. Call us at 719-208-4524 to discuss your bird problem today.

1

Netting

Stop Birds From Accessing Your Space

We stop birds from entering almost any space by installing netting. It is strong and durable, but thin and black so that it is not visually distracting. We can prevent birds from flying or roosting under awnings, roofs, or any other architectural area.

2

Anti-Roosting

Stop Birds From Landing Or Roosting

We install needle strips or shock track on ledges, beams, the tops of signs, and anywhere birds are roosting and causing unsightly and unhealthy droppings. We can reach any area with our ladders and boom lifts.

3

Cleanup

We Clean Droppings and Nesting Material

Birds can make a mess with their droppings - on your building, roof, or the ground, or any other area. Sometimes bird guano and nesting material accumulate. We professionally clean and decontaminate the area.

How Do Pigeons Find Their Way Home?

We know pigeons as birds with an amazing homing instinct, although humans don't actually understand all that much about the bird's navigational skills. Plenty of theories have been put forward to suggest how these birds manage to fly many thousands of miles away from home and then make their way safely home again, usually in record time, but despite that, we're still not quite sure.

A fast pigeon, such as a racing pigeon, could be released many miles away from its original location and still manage to find its way back in the same day. And we're talking about distances in excess of five hundred miles, too. It might take the slower pigeon types slightly longer, but even non-racing pigeons can find their way home from five hundred miles or so with ease.

So, how do they do it?

Some experts believe that pigeons use the magnetic field of our planet to find its way around, although there isn't really sufficient evidence to support this theory. Other experts think the bird uses its sense of sight and local landmarks to help find its way back home. The bird does have a great memory after all. Even motorways and road junctions have been put forward as methods of pigeon navigation, although this probably down to the ‘landmark' idea, rather than using our actual human roadways to get around.

There are plenty of other ideas put forward; some have said that low frequency waves of seismic activity could be how they find their way from place to place, something commonly called infrasounds. Others have suggested that the sun could be the key in understanding pigeon navigation.

In reality, we don't know that much about how these pigeons manage to achieve the flying feats they do, but we certainly do marvel at them. With the ability to travel thousands of miles, across water and land, and still make it back home again, pigeons were once one of the only reliable methods to get a message across. It seems almost sad that a bird that once managed to save lives during the first and Second World War is now thought of as nothing more than just a pest.
